The Fifth National Seminar on Coastal Zone Management in Cambodia was held on 30th May at Phnom Penh, with the participation of the National Coastal Steering Committee, line ministries at the national level and concerned departments in the four coastal provinces and municipalities as well as NGOs, private sector and local community representatives.
The national seminar had been preceded by two one-day provincial workshops held in Kampot, Kep, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong. The first series focused on community based natural resources management and the framework for supporting commune and community activities. Further details are attached in these proceedings. The second series of provincial workshops discussed the draft State of the Coastal Environment and Socioeconomic Report and provided recommendation to some of the issues identified in this report.
Following the opening and the key-note sessions of the seminar a presentation of the draft State of the Coastal Environment and Socio-economic Report was made by Mr. Vann Monyneath on environmental chapters, by Mr. Ros Bansok on natural resources chapters and by Mr. Meas Rithy on socioeconomic chapters. In the afternoon session reporting was made from the provincial workshops followed by group discussions to
provide recommendations on the draft State of the Coastal Environment and Socioeconomic
Report as well as on actions addressing key issues identified in the report.
