This report is based on an analysis of existing information regarding tourism in the coastal zone particularly Ream National Park (NP), and of information gathered from a workshop on ecotourism in Ream NP. This information has provided the groundwork for producing a framework necessary for the development of ecotourism in the coastal zone, specifically LACRM (Local Areas of the Coastal Resource Management).
The report discusses current tourism activities in Ream NP in terms of the tourism resources and service providers, and visitor statistics; the impacts and constraints of tourism development; and instituional invovlement. Chapter 3 of the report briefly describes the communities within the park in terms of their livelihoods and participation in tourism. General government policies relevant to tourism are reviewed in Chapter 4, while specific strategies for ecotourism development in Ream are detailed in Chapter 5, including recommendations for specific ecotourism projects in the Park. Finally, based on the investigation of ecotourism in Ream NP, a general framework for developing ecotourism in the coastal zone is provided.
